So Aiden is just a few days short of 6 months old, but I thought it would be enlightening to compare his schedule from 3.5 months to now.

This is a pretty average day for us:

2:30 am: Wakes up needing to be fed (comfort feed).  It’s hard to distinguish which are which these days.  We are only up for about 15-20 minutes each time now.  What a relief when I think about the newborn days and we were up for about 1-2 hours each time!

4:50 am: Wakes up again wanting to nibble.

6:30 am: I wake up wondering “why haven’t I heard from him yet?”  He has never slept this late in his crib by himself!  I take advantage and eat breakfast, check email and read blogs just knowing any moment he’s going to start crying.

7:45 am: Aiden finally wakes up happy.  It’s unusual for him to wake up happy.  I honestly think he gets mad because he knows he missed something by being asleep.  He’s practicing crawling in his crib when I go get him.

7:45 – 8:00 am: Aiden eats

8:00 – 9:00 am: We don’t have anything planned for the morning.  Usually I plan on either meeting friends, going to a playgroup or on Tuesdays, I teach mom and baby yoga.  Today, we have playtime and mom does some stretching and ab work for a few minutes.

9:00 – 9:20 am: We finally decide it’s time to get ready for the day.

9:20 – 10:15 am: We finally make it out the door for our walk!  Today we walked 2.25 miles which is a little shorter than normal.  It was HOT!  Aiden takes a nap during this time.

10:15 – 10:25 am: Aiden eats.

10:25 – 10: 30 am: I eat lunch too.  It’s weird in our house because David works at home and his “lunch” break is at 10 am.  I’m hungry for a snack right now, but we usually just eat lunch now.  Strange I know!

10:30 am- 12:15 pm: I don’t really know what happened during this whole time.  I know Aiden played and I was constantly telling Otis “no lick” (my dog is an obsessive licker).  I don’t really know how the time passed so quickly.

12:15 – 12:30 pm: I nurse Aiden to sleep in his room and then put his in his crib for a nap.

12:30 – 2:15 pm: I run around with my head chopped off thinking about how much I’d like to get done, but realizing I have no idea if Aiden is going to take a 45 minute nap or a 2 hour nap.  It’s so inconsistent, but at least we’re taking naps now!  Today happened to be a long one, so I made dinner, did the dishes, pumped, started a load of laundry and took a shower and got ready for work.  Wheew.

2:15 – 2:30 pm: Aiden eats again.

2:30 – 3:00 pm: Playtime!

3:00 – 3:15 pm: Aiden eats again because I made him.  I had to go to work for a couple hours and I wanted him to be full when I left because I wasn’t able to pump much milk today.

Side note: I have a love-hate relationship with my breast pump.  Some days, it comes out with no problem and other days, I can barely get any!  It’s frustrating.  And… since I’m home a lot with Aiden, I feel like there isn’t a lot left over to be pumped most of the time.  This is the topic of another post, but I was just throwing that out there.

3:15 – 6:30 pm: I leave for work at this time as an acupuncturist.  Aiden stays with daddy and I’m not totally sure what they do other than play, eat and I’m pretty sure David tries to get him down for another nap most of the time.

6:30 – 6: 50 pm: Aiden eats and snuggles with me

6: 50 – 7:00 pm: I finally eat some dinner.  Tonight I made a stir fry with veggies, brown rice and a moroccan tagine sauce.

7:00 – 7:30 pm: Aiden plays a little bit more before bed.  He goes in the exersaucer, sits in the bumbo, practices crawling and sitting or daddy maneuvers some sort of carnival ride for him! On some nights, I give him a bath right now, but this particular night, we didn’t.

7:30 – 7:35 pm: Change Aiden into his pajamas and read a story.

7:35 – 8:00 pm: Nurse him to sleep.  He is usually asleep in about 10 minutes, but I like to hold him and sing to him a little longer.  This might be my favorite time of day!

8:00 – 9:00 pm: David and I hang out either watching TV, working on blog stuff or just talking.  Sometimes if I’m really tired, I just go lay in bed now.  David sometimes go to the gym now too.

9:00 pm: I usually turn on a random show on Project Free TV and watch that while I fall asleep.  Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Cake Boss!

11:30 pm – 12:30 am: Sometime between this time, Aiden wakes up for the first time of the night.

From the 3.5 month update, he has started taking naps, we’ve been all the way through a sleep regression and he’s transitioned into his crib.  His playtime is also looking quite different.  At 3.5 months, I would lay him under the activity gym and he’d work on rolling over, but was immobile.  Long gone are those days, I can’t leave him unattended for any amount of time these days!  We are also getting more of a predictable schedule, which is nice.  I used to plan anything on any day and know that he would take “cheater” naps as some people call them because he wouldn’t really nap at home in a bed or his rock n’ play.  Now, I like to do one thing with him per day.  I know that he needs to have solid naps or we’re in trouble – his sleep begets sleep.  I can’t have him out for too long during the day like newborns are able to do.  Aiden definitely likes consistency too.  I feel like he’s starting to understand that when I put him in his sleep sack and sing Brahm’s lullaby to him, he knows it’s time to go to sleep.  I wasn’t sure these days would come, but they are here!
