A Running Weekend.

This weekend has been anticipated for a while now – David and I both ran our first organized running events in a long time – Run Colfax.  I haven’t run any for a year and David’s last marathon was last October.  In a way, it felt like we kicked off summer.

We headed down to City Park on Saturday morning for me to run my 5k.  I finally got myself into gear and started running again about a month ago.  After a long hiatus for many reasons, I finally felt ready to take the plunge and sign up for this to get myself motivated again.

I had my favorite cheering section there complete with Aiden babbling, laughing, and hardcore dancing. 2014-05-17 08.24.10

I said my goodbyes and headed to the start line to test out my progress in running and to see where I stood.

I ran pretty well for only running for a month prior.  I felt pretty good and tried to push myself.  I ended up with a 10:24 pace which isn’t fast by any means, but okay for a starting point. photo3

On Sunday morning, we got up very early to make it to David’s starting line for a 6:45 am half marathon start.  The sun was shining and the weather was perfect for running.

I lucked out and had a friend with a husband running also, so we hung out, walked around and took our kids to the park for a bit during the race.

David finished in 1:35:24, which is wonderful!  He was trying to beat 1:35, but I was awfully proud of him for doing so well.  His pace was consistent and he ran well.

Here is Aiden thinking he needed to recover from a strenuous hour playing in the park.

The weekend flew by with us being busy both days, but we did have time to relax in the afternoons and spend more time together.  As always, I can’t believe it’s already Monday morning – we need one more day, but nonetheless, it was a successful weekend.  I feel motivated to start training for a half marathon this summer sometime!  I am making a comeback to a part of myself that I’ve missed dearly.

Questions:

Did you run this weekend?

Did you do anything else fun this weekend?

Is it summer to you yet?

This is so great! Personally I hate running, but I know so many people that really enjoy it and love having that race to look forward to – so I think it is great for you and your husband to have a double race weekend! Aiden is as always so cute cheering on his parents. I bet that will be so great for him to watch you guys accomplishing things like that as he gets older. I think the only race that would motivate me is a Disney one =)

I do like having a race to train for. It’s the only thing that really motivates me to run, but they are fun. I would love to do a Disney Race too!

  2. […] Aiden happy.  I wanted to give myself one day in between each run in the beginning when I was training for a 5k back in April and May and have stuck with that […]
