I feel like we’ve hit another milestone – 15 months! This month has been lots of fun with you becoming more of a toddler everyday and the weather is finally warm. We did have one last unfortunate May blizzard that ended up happening on Mother’s Day, but other than that, we’ve been in the clear.
One minute I look at you and I can’t believe how big you’ve gotten, how much you’ve developed and how much you’ve changed from the little baby I brought home from the hospital, but on the other hand, sometimes I still see a baby for sure. It all depends on what age of kids we’ve recently seen. You look like a moose compared to infants, yet still little compared to actual toddler-aged kids.
I know I say this every month, but your personality is shining through more and more. You are perseverant, determined, strong willed and so lovable. You have a mind of your own and that is becoming more existent with each passing day too. You definitely know what you want and let us all know. It’s a good characteristic that I hope you will maintain.
With being strong willed comes temper tantrums as well. When you don’t get your way, you let us know that by screaming and flailing around. They usually only last a couple seconds, but they are increasing in length with age. Daddy and I have to set some firm ground early on as recommended by Love and Logic.
You love to play all day long. Books have become a new favorite and we catch you in your room reading frequently now. I enrolled you in a summer reading program for fun and I think you’ll enjoy going to more storytimes and doing some of the activities there. I know you’re young, but I still think it’ll be fun.
Playing outside is irreplaceable. Whenever you get the chance to be outside, you’ll take it. We bought you a kiddie pool for the backyard and you love to romp around in it, but also spend hours just walking around exploring the outdoors. I also hope you’ll love the outdoors just as much when you get older – I don’t see that changing in our family.
We bought some stackable blocks the other day and you enjoy stacking those, figuring out puzzles, driving trucks, riding on your Thomas the Train, chasing Otis, and playing with any kitchen utensil you can find. Scout is your favorite bedtime friend as well.
You’re becoming more of a dare devil now which is exciting, yet terrifying all at the same time. You are wanting to climb things and step down from steps all by yourself. You are an adrenaline junkie with daddy and love when he throws you through the air or lets you ride him.
Eating is still going well. You are generally a great eater and not too picky for the most part. Your favorites are hamburger soup, waffles, peanut butter and jelly, greek yogurt, cantaloupe, juicing juice, watermelon, honeydew, bananas, grapes, peas, bread, baby biscuits, and sweet potato hash browns. You don’t really like very much meat. Occasionally you’ll eat some BBQ pork, but that’s about it.
We are still breastfeeding and it’s going well. I’m having a difficult time with the weaning part of things, so I just still feed on demand. We typically nurse first thing in the morning (but not always), before your nap, before bedtime and 1-2 times in the middle of the night. In the past few days, I’ve started thinking that you’re not using it as much to fall asleep at night and you’re becoming frustrated on how to get to sleep. With this new development, Daddy and I think we have to change up your bedtime routine a little bit to separate the nursing from sleep. We plan to start that next week. I have also decided that emotionally I’m not ready to wean yet, so we’re just going with the flow.
Sleep is getting better too. The past few nights, Aiden has only woken up 1 time in the night with his bedtime at 7:30 pm and he’ll wake between 6:30-7:00 usually (sometimes earlier). I think getting up 1 time is great and I’ll take it! For most of the month, you woke up 1-3 times in the night, so we’re doing better! Teething played a part in the times you woke up more often.
Speaking of teeth, you have 4 upper teeth and still 2 bottom. I think you’re working on some molars now, but they don’t seem like they are going to cut anytime soon. Only time will tell.
Talking is also going well. You are very communicative by babbling, but those babbles are becoming words now too. You say mama, yogurt, puppy, dada, car and some other words that I’m still trying to figure out. Your voice absolutely melts my heart. I need to teach you more signs too!
I love how much our relationship blossoms everyday. It’s so much fun exploring with you and realizing how amazing the world is from a 15 month olds perspective. I love showing you new things and planning our days together. We are going to have so much fun together this summer.
I love you to the moon and back baby,
