What Is Acupuncture And How It Can Help You Today – 012

On episode 12 of The Ali Damron Show,  I talked about my true profession – acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years.  Despite it’s long track record of treating a whole host of conditions, pain and emotional issues, many people in Western cultures misunderstand it and it’s benefits and therefore miss out on all it can offer for them.

  1.  Acupuncture works by stimulating the acupuncture points on the skin.  There are high nerve counts, lymphatics and capillaries that  can produce biochemical and physiological changes.  The complex system of interactions between the brain, hormones and glands is responsible for regulating several processes within the body.
  2. We release endorphins and other neurotransmitters that are the body’s pain killers.  These natural pain killers are much more potent than a synthetic morphine or other pain killer prescription.
  3. We also stimulate the release of serotonin and substances that cause us to relax
  4. We also increase circulation, T-cells (immune system) and then decrease inflammation and muscle spasm.

Acupuncturists have a 4 year Master’s degree with 3,500 hours of formal education.  We are well versed in both Eastern and Western medicine.  We are also required to take several national board exams and complete CEU hours to maintain our license.  Look for L.Ac. when deciding on a practitioner.

Anyone can benefit!  We don’t have side effects from acupuncture other than the occasional bruise at the needle site.  We can help manage stress, increase the immune system, help internal medicine conditions and provide wellness.
