This is a guest post from a good friend of mine Lauren Hasz to provide all of us with an essential oils guide and implementation approach.
Lauren has had a career path with many twists and turns, influenced primarily by infertility and motherhood. But she loves where she has landed in women’s health and owning her own birth doula and wellness coaching businesses. She specializes in using therapeutic-grade essential oils to support natural health and wellness and leads a growing team that focuses on education and the chemical-free lifestyle. Her daily work revolves around her two children, her mama village, pregnant and postpartum clients, and her dream of seeing women live confidently, transparently, and fully alive. She is an unashamed lover of all things coffee and a believer in big emotions and little joys. She blogs occasionally, takes photos often, and treasures the simple moments and deep breathes that make up her mothering days.
For the plant-based lifestyle, essential oils simply make sense.
Essential oils are distilled plants. Browsing my essential oil options is like looking over all the produce at a Farmer’s Market stand and deciding what our family needs on any given week. Certain essential oils are seasonal for us depending on our wellness needs at the time, and we can rest easy knowing that they impact our health in a similar fashion to plants. However, due to their potency, only a few drops are needed. Like produce, quality is key. Therapeutic-grade essential oils from companies with high standards and outside testing of each harvest guarantees that you are choosing the best oil for your family.
And, for those passionate about the plant-based lifestyle, then essential oils with their cleansing, medicinal properties, can also be used to clean the home, support nutritional needs, and infuse personal care and baby care products. It is said that the average American woman is exposed to 300 chemicals daily. I prefer to limit that exposure in our home as much as possible by swapping out chemical-laden products with essential oil infused ones.
Essential oils are a chemical-free way to create a natural medicine cabinet
Thanks to the large body of research that has been done on essential oils, we know that they can impact all systems of the body and support the body’s vibrancy. Our family chooses to regularly use Young Living Thieves essential oil blend to support our immune systems and have been amazed at the results. We use Young Living Lemon Vitality essential oil (approved by FDA for internal use) in our drinks to support gentle, daily cleansing and a balanced pH. We use oils like Eucalyptus and Young Living RC blend to support our respiratory systems. Truly, the options are endless when you harness the power of plants to work for you.
Essential oils infused into your supplements help your body absorb nutrients and support immune systems
A little-known fact is that studies have shown that essential oils use can increase the body’s absorption of nutrients. So, while essential oils are more well known in their little brown amber bottle forms, our family loves to use supplements that contain these oils on a daily basis. I’ve seen dramatic differences in inflammation, joint health, gut health, hair and nail strength, balanced moods and happy hormones. BUT, they are never the end all be all. They must go hand-in-hand with mindfulness, nutrition, fitness, and community. I try to always partner with healthcare and wellness practitioners when coming up with a plan for our family’s wellness routines. Essential oils are simply a part of those healthy habits in our home.
Essential oils are the best parenthood hack.
Need supported sleep? Add Lavender to Epsom salt or sweet almond oil in a bath before bed and both mamas and babies have been shown to experience deeper sleep and lowered stress levels. Need a chemical-free option for diaper rash? Essential oil infused creams can be a lifesaver. Need a plant-based sunscreen? Essential oils play a role in that ingredient list as well. Looking to support tiny digestive systems? Blends made for little ones benefit digestive function and healthy elimination. Trying to help your older child focus? Oils such as peppermint and vetiver can partner to support brain function and attention.
Depending on how you purchase essential oils, you can also gain a community and a team to educate you .
One of my favorite aspects of my wellness journey has been the community that I’ve gained along the way. From mamas in my postpartum support group to wellness practitioners to yoga instructors, my heart and home have been changed by the village that surrounds me. If you follow me on Instagram or read my blog, then you will quickly realize that I would never dream of trying to survive without my tribe. And, I’m grateful for the opportunity at this point in my journey to lead an international team of Young Living essential oil users and play a role in the village of many other men and women. I am passionate about helping families to lead vibrant, active, chemical-free lifestyles, while we learn from each other. I chose Young Living after researching essential oil quality and have never looked back.
