I love teaching women about seed cycling because it’s a food-based, simple solution to hormonal imbalances.
What is seed cycling?
Seed cycling is the practice of using specific seeds during specific parts of your menstrual cycle to achieve a hormonal balance between estrogen and progesterone.
Estrogen is high the first half of your cycle (until ovulation) and then progesterone takes over between ovulation and the beginning of your period.
The specific seeds that we use each have properties in them to support each phase of your cycle. The first phase from your period until ovulation is called your follicle phase. The phase from ovulation to the beginning of your period is called the luteal phase.
We want both estrogen and progesterone to be in the right amounts in order to feel hormonally balanced.
If you you’re struggling with PMS, bloating, irritability, heavy periods, missing periods (amenorrhea), cramps, clotty periods, hot flashes, fatigue or anything else relating to your cycle or hormones, chances are, estrogen, progesterone or both are either at levels that are too high or too low.
Seed cycling gently encourages a balance of these hormones in a safe and effective way.
Who should seed cycle?
This is the beauty of seed cycling. Because it gently encourages your body to regulate estrogen and progesterone, all ages can utilize this strategy.
It can be used for women who are not having regular periods due to amenorrhea, PCOS, peri-menopause or post-menopausal women as well.
We all want balanced hormones to feel our best!
How Do I Seed Cycle?
Seed cycling is extremely simple, but it does take some consistency to fully see the results.
On Day 1 of your period until day 14, purchase raw flaxseed and pumpkin seeds, grind them up using a coffee grinder, food processor or powerful blender and use however you wish.
On days 15-the start of your period or day 28 of your cycle, you will purchase raw sesame seeds and sunflower seeds, grind them up again using the same method and use as you wish.
The dosage of each seed is 1 TBSP.
If you are not having a period, then simply use flaxseed and pumpkin seeds for 2 weeks and then switch to sesame seeds and sunflower seeds for two weeks.
How Can I Use the Seeds?
The options are endless!
I’ve had patients put the seeds in their smoothies, oatmeal, soups, salads, and on avocados.
You can put them wherever you want!
How Long Does It Take To See Results?
This is where the consistency comes into place.
Due to our physiology, it takes 90 days to regulate a menstrual cycle because our body chooses the follicle it’s going to ovulate 90 days in advance and takes it through a cycle.
With that said, you will likely see small improvements within a few cycles.
This is food that can be used as medicine, so it’s not a fast process but it heals on a root cause level, is holistic, safe and effective.
Give it time!
